The training took place in NUCES, Lahore from December 3rd, 2007 till December 7th, 2007. The team had no prior experience in developing project plans or designing project evaluations by using social evaluation tools. So the training was very helpful for the trainees.  A one day trip to historical places of Lahore was planned on December 8th, 2007.

Following topics came under discussion during the training.

• Outcome Mapping for Afghanistan Country Component

The team had no prior experience in developing project plans or designing project evaluations by using social evaluation tools.  Thus the training was very helpful in introducing the team with evaluative thinking and providing them an orientation to planning, monitoring and evaluation through outcome mapping methodology, http://www.idrc.ca/en/ev-26586-201-1-DO_TOPIC.html.

The training spanned over three full days.  During this time the team had a hands on exercise on drafting the country component's intentional design (including vision, mission, boundary partners, outcome challenge, strategy maps), understanding the way monitoring is conducted through the outcome mapping approach and introduction to evaluation planning by developing the evaluation plan for the country component.

• Font Development

The training was mainly focused on different steps involved in Font development. It started with the introduction to different encoding schemes and Unicode, followed by introduction to different font technologies. Training included calligraphy lessons particularly focused on calligraphy for font development. TrueType font and OpenType font architectures were covered in detail. Training also included hands-on labs using different font development tools such as ScanFont, FontLab and MS VOLT.

• Open Source Software (OSS) Localization

The first session of the OSS Localization training consisted of a brief introduction to open source software and it's localization. In the second session, localization of the open source Internet suite, SeaMonkey, was covered in detail.  Use of the open source Computer Aided Translation (CAT) tool, OmegaT, was also covered. The topic for the third session was a process for localizing SeaMonkey using OmegaT. Each session was accompanied with  relevant practical work.
