National IT Development and Promotional Unit (NIDU) under the Ministry of Information Technology organized the
workshop on IDNs for local content development in Pakistani languages at FAST-NUCES, Lahore from May 15th - 16th 2009.
The
purpose of this meeting was to provide a platform for the discussion of policy and standardization issues
relating to internationalizing domain names in Pakistani languages. Participants from various language
communities were invited to provide suggestions and share ideas on conclusions drawn in the previously held workshop.
The objectives of the workshop were as follows:
(i) Characters required to represent each language.
(ii) Confusable characters within a language, and across languages.
(iii) Choice of digits (Latin and/or Perso-Arabic).
(iv) Label separator and character separator (dash vs. dot, ZWNJ vs. hyphen) for domain
names.
(v) IDN ccTLD string for Pakistan (e.g.
پاکستان، پاک، etc.) and gTLD translations . |
