Department of IT, Ministry of Information & Communications, Bhutan

 

The main roles and responsibilities of the Department include the following:
 

 

 

  • Assist the Ministry in planning infrastructure development in consultation with BCA and the public and private sectors.

  • Design and implement projects for national network(s) particularly interconnecting of all Dzongkhags and Gewogs, using combination of technologies.

  • Act as interface between the Government and Private sector for planning the required infrastructure.

  • Organize workshops, seminars and meetings on the emerging technologies, on national, regional and international levels.

  • Research on networking and hardware components and make necessary recommendation on the new technology for adoption to the government.

  • Provide assistance to BCA in analysis of technical matters, including interconnections, radio frequencies and use of technical standards.

  • Prepare technical specifications for hardware.

  • Carry out certification of hardware including locally assembled computers.
